Holiday Season 2018

At Cokesbury Church, we’re spending the 2018 Holiday Season in service to others. From Thanksgiving Boxes to helping a family build a new home, to celebrating the Christmas season with families in need, there is an opportunity for everyone to experience the joy of helping others this holiday season.

Cokesbury is partnering with Appalachia Service Project to help a family rebuild their home that was destroyed in Gatlinburg wildfires of 2016. Alan and Victoria are living with their family of 4 in a shed on their property, and we have an opportunity to help them rebuild. We will collect a special offering to go toward the cost of rebuilding their home during our special Thanksgiving services on Sunday, November 18. We also need volunteers to help build the home. We have a team of skilled volunteer leaders who will be working alongside ASP to build a new home for this deserving family. Volunteers age 15 and older are invited to register to serve. The construction will happen in 3 phases:

  • Framing & Dry-In: November 26—December 7
  • Painting: Early January (dates TBD)
  • Finishing:  January (dates TBD)

Volunteer shifts are available on weekdays and are from 9 am — 5 pm each day. More shifts will be added to the volunteer form as they are scheduled.

Join with us as we welcome nearly 200 people to a Christmas party like you’ve never experienced on Saturday, December 1. We need volunteers to share the love of Jesus through friendship, games, decorations, and food. We also need folks to help us stock the Christmas Store. Most volunteer shifts are from 9 am — 1 pm on Saturday, December 1. Set-up and decorating shifts are on Thursday, November 29 from 8—10 pm. The tear-down shift is Saturday, December 1 from 1—2:30 pm.

Christmas Hope is a party for families who are connected to Cokesbury through our Outreach ministries. Guests at the party enjoy a holiday meal, are able to shop for gifts, and enjoy special Christmas programming. Children experience a Christmas party created just for them, and each guest is partnered one-on-one with a volunteer.

Our Christmas Store is stocked with gifts from our Target registry. This allows our guests to shop for new gifts at a fraction of the retail price, and also gives guests an authentic store experience.

Join us for a special night of worship and thanksgiving on Sunday, November 18. We’ll gather at both the North and South Campuses at 6:00 pm. Each service will feature special music and an offering to help rebuild the home of Alan & Victoria, who lost everything in the Gatlinburg Wildfires of 2016. The North Campus service will feature contemporary music, while the South Campus service will feature more traditional music and liturgy.

We know this time of year is not always joyful. If you or someone you know is dealing with grief this holiday season, we invite you to be a part of our special GriefShare group: Surviving the Holidays. This 5-week group focuses on the things that can make the holiday season particularly painful for those of us who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

Surviving the Holidays meets on Mondays at 6:30 pm on the North Campus in Room 200, beginning on November 19.

Join us for this special Advent Teaching Group for adults as we explore the true meaning of Christmas. The class will be led each week by one of our pastors. This four-week group will meet on Wednesdays, beginning on November 28, from 6:30—7:30 pm. Childcare is available by reservation.
